Suffolk County Police Fifth Squad detectives are investigating the shooting that took place around 8:45 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 7, in the East Patchogue/North Bellport area.
According to police, three men were driving in an SUV when a black sedan with dark tinted windows drove next to them and fired several shots at their vehicle.
A man sitting in the back seat of the SUV was struck by one of the bullets, police said.
Other shots caused damage to the SUV. The black sedan fled the scene.
The driver of the SUV drove the damaged vehicle into the parking lot of a gas station, located at 151 Hospital Road, in East Patchogue where a Good Samaritan then drove the victim to a local hospital to be treated for serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries.
